The Barn at Harburn | Scottish Wedding Photography | Roslyn + Barry
I can count on one hand (even if I had 3 fingers chopped off!) the number of weddings I have covered in Scotland where the weather has given us such incredible mist as we had for Roslyn and Barry’s wedding. After travelling all the way up from the south of England to be married, the conditions were looking…unpromising! After a morning of heavy rain, the skies held just long enough for us to make it to the end of the wedding ceremony at the beautiful Barn at Harburn in West Calder. As we exited onto the lovely rustic grounds and guests mingled and children played lawn games, a foreboding yet enchanting fog had descended and I had a sense that probably pretty soon we were going to have to dash for cover. We rattled through the required formal group photographs just in time and then………..nothing. For the rest of the day we were treated to an eerie and beautiful display of natures most dream-like weather condition - which made me a little like a kid in a sweet shop! :-)
The lush scenery at Harburn was the perfect compliment to the warmth taking place inside. Family and friends were very much the focus of Roslyn and Barry’s celebration and it was important for them that as much of the emotional atmosphere as possible was recorded; tiny snippets of joy, laughter, excitement, love, and kids in boxes. All rolled into one lovely, giant, Great-British-Bake-Off show stopper! Evocative was the word I believe Barry used. Fantastic word. I’m gonna steal that one and use it in future!
