Scottish Highlands destination photography | Glencoe Mountains | Mariana & Rob

When you're looking for a romantic destination for your first wedding anniversary photoshoot, then the Scottish highlands may not be the first place that comes to mind, but let me tell you a wee tale... ;-)

Mariana and Rob married one year ago in both Lithuania & The Netherlands (being their respective home countries)! They decided to do a little travelling around Scotland for their first anniversary and thought it might be nice to have a memento from the holiday.

When Mariana got in touch with me to discuss ideas, her one request was a non-flat landscape, as that is what she is used to where she lives. Well, my initial and obvious suggestion was the Glencoe mountains - if you want a dramatic landscape suitable for a photoshoot then there's your pot of gold! Whatever the weather conditions you're guaranteed something beautiful; striking summer rays or (as in our case) moody, misty mountain tops, driving rain and exquisite, mysterious crags that can make it look like you're walking along the ridge of a volcano! Why take a trip to the mountains of the continent when you have all this on your doorstep, and you don't have to hike for miles to get to it?

You may be thinking "Sure, the photographs are lovely, but I don't want to trudge up a mountain and get soaked and be miserable". Fair point...except, all the locations we used were right by the roadside,  and...getting windswept and embroiled in the elements is all part of the adventure! :-) Mariana actually sent me an email saying how much they enjoyed themselves and that it actually felt like they were just taking a walk in the wilderness by themselves - no stuffy photoshoot rules - just some fun and some awesome scenery!

Anyway, I guess that wasn't really a story so much as a call to action. Feel the need for some photographs or a wedding in the amazing Scottish countryside we have? Good. Give me a call. I enjoy these as much as my couples do :-)
