House for an Art Lover Wedding | Wedding Photography | Kathleen + David

Here comes my final wedding from 2024, and it was simply an outstandingly visual, creative, and loving celebration. Keeping us warm in the crisp Scottish winter!

A Colourful and Creative Wedding at the House for an Art Lover: A Perfect end to the year for a lucky Glasgow Wedding Photographer!

When it comes to planning a wedding, a couples’ vision for their day can be a fluid thing; depending on current trends, budget and outside input. The personality of this wedding, I think, was imbued right from the start with a strong creative identity. For Kathleen and Dave the personal touches made all the difference, and in a wedding venue that is almost as unique as they come. I knew beforehand that Kathleen was an artist ( http://www.instagram.com/kath.doodles/ if anyone fancies a look at her work!) and I was not disappointed when I arrived. It was a tour de force in how to inject DIY creativity and heartfelt personal touches into your wedding - from beautiful handmade stockings filled with little decorations as favours, magnets, table décor that was carefully selected from vintage stores and charity shops, and a memorial area created to honour loved ones who had passed away. They even handed out a humorous personalised spoof magazine, all about themselves as keepsakes for the guests.

The House for an Art Lover in Glasgow was the perfect setting for their intimate wedding. Known for its stunning design, influenced by renowned Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the venue offered an eclectic blend of classic and modern aesthetics that spoke to the couples’ artistic eye. Kathleen has admired the place for years, but Dave also fell in love with it as a wedding venue upon visiting for the first time. Having photographed my first ever wedding there many moons ago, I know that it’s a fantastic Glasgow wedding venue for smaller winter weddings; providing a cozy yet stylish setting that makes for some excellent and quirky photographic opportunities! All they had to add was were splashes of their own colour preferences.

The ceremony itself was a beautiful blend of tradition and personal touches, conducted by the effortlessly energetic Gillian Monaghan :-) (https://www.instagram.com/gillian_humanist_celebrant/) The couple chose songs with deep meaning, including a piano version of David Bowie's "Soul Love" recorded by none other than Dave himself, being the musically consummate smoothy he is, to which Kathleen was accompanied down the aisle by her mum. A touch that I hadn’t heard of before was that as part of their commitment, the couple took each other’s surnames as middle names - which I thought was a lovely and unusual, low-key way of sealing their bond.

Then all that then remained was the fun part, with plenty of chatting, mingling and the occasional combat sequence ;-D For and excellent extra touch of nostalgia the couple had shipped in full sized arcade machines to entertain the guests - which seemed to go down very well indeed!

All in all, a truly excellent way to end the year!

Congratulations guys :-)
