Corinthian Club Glasgow Wedding | City Wedding Photography | Heather + Aidan
An inner city wedding throws up all sorts of questions: where are the best locations for photography? How will I avoid members of the public getting in my photographs? How will I feel walking about the city in my wedding dress and high heels? And the answer to all those questions is…….Yes ;-D
The way to approach a Glasgow City wedding is to have the same attitude as Heather and Aidan - just party like it’s your wedding day, and the world will party with you! This was my first time working at the grand Corinthian Club in the Merchant City area of Glasgow and it was everything I’d hoped it would be. Funky and varied interiors mixed with ornate, classical architecture, and a labyrinthine layout that provided photographic opportunity around nearly every corner. The pillars and lighting in the ceremony hall, as well as the huge staircase just inside the entrance to the venue were some of the big things that drew the couple to the venue in the first place. The Corinthian functions as a nightclub and casino in the evening and the bridal prep area was situated near the dancefloor of the club with vanity mirrors, red curtains, jazzy nightclub lighting and all the trappings of ghostly, hazy memories of nights on the toon. It’s actually really weird being in a nightclub and sober during the day! :-D
The day itself was wonderfully laid-back and very fun to be a part of, with a dusty sage colour theme, jokes flowing throughout the ceremony and speeches, and Heather herself launching herself into the air on numerous occasions like and Olympic-level high jumper - in heels and a wedding dress no less. Insert flexed bicep emoji right here! ;-D
The thing that was really pleasing for me is that Heather and Aidan were very relaxed and happy to just go with the flow in terms of photographs. City weddings come with certain features that makes them different to country venue weddings. Not better, not worse, just different :-) For any wedding there’s always an element of making things up on the fly, depending on the weather, the conditions and the timings on the day. For the couple shots in particular, it’s a time to experiment, be creative, get something that uniquely feels like the couple. In a city, that means wandering the streets looking for interesting angles/ strong shadows/ pools of light and anything exciting that might spring out at you from a city full of crazy people. Heather and Aidan were not from Glasgow and were relying on me to find some nice spots in a short amount of time and they attacked it with exactly the right attitude. They had fun, they talked to random strangers and their pets, and they just went with the flow. And they were a pleasure to photograph!
Then back inside for mingling, partying and just solid good times.
Congratulations guys :-)
